Frequently asked questions

How do I start planning a trek?

Open the Treks tab and tap the plus button to build one stage by stage, or open the route library, pick one of the 18 classic routes, tap Plan this trek, set the start date and tap Add to my treks. Every stage and hut is filled in, and you can change anything afterwards.

Can I use the app without signal?

Yes. Hut to Hut works fully offline. Routes, huts, your treks, photos and diary are all stored on the device.

Why am I not getting reminders?

Open Settings in the app and check that notifications are allowed. If they were declined earlier, enable them in iOS Settings → Notifications → Hut to Hut. Booking reminders fire only for huts where you set a booking window date, and departure reminders need a departure time on the stage.

How do I add a hut stamp?

Open a stage, scroll to the hut book stamp and tap Photograph to capture the stamp in your hut book, or From library to pick an existing photo. The stamp then appears in your Passport.

Why did the packing list add an item?

The list reads your stages. For example, a hut without blankets adds a sleeping bag, snowfields add microspikes, fixed cables add a helmet and gloves, and card-free huts add extra cash. Each item shows the stage that triggered it.

How are walking times estimated?

Using the common alpine rule of about four kilometres or three hundred metres of ascent per hour, adjusted for the pace you choose in Settings. Treat them as a guide, not a promise.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, search for Hut to Hut and choose a size. Tapping the widget opens the right screen in the app.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Your data is included in your regular iPhone or iPad backup (iCloud or computer). Restore that backup on the new device.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Erase everything removes all treks, stamps, photos and diary pages from the device.

Safety

Hut to Hut gives timings and notes to help you plan. It does not replace a map, a forecast or local advice. Always check conditions, hut opening dates and the weather before you set out, and confirm bookings directly with the huts.
